Terry Fox’s Legacy Endures with Inspiring Events in Hundreds of Communities and Schools around the World

Students at Maple Bear Schools globally raise $250,000 in support of cancer research

Toronto, ON, March 21, 2023:

Since the Marathon of Hope in 1980, Terry Fox’s legacy continues to inspire communities and schools around the world to fundraise for cancer research. Taking place in 25 countries, including Canada, Singapore, Brazil, United States, England, and Ireland, the annual Terry Fox Run unites participants in support of Terry’s dream of a world without cancer. To date, more than $850 million dollars has been raised by the Terry Fox Foundation, bringing hope and health to cancer patients and their families.

The Terry Fox Foundation is grateful for the support of Maple Bear Global Schools, a Canadian company and the largest international education brand in the world, for teaching the value of giving back to the communities where students and their families live, study, and work. Maple Bear students have raised more than $500,000 since 2017 in support of the Terry Fox Foundation, and this year alone raised $250,000 for cancer research in Singapore, Brazil, Vietnam, Hong Kong, and Bulgaria.

“We are very grateful to Maple Bear Schools for supporting cancer research and sharing Terry’s inspiring story with students around the world,” says Michael Mazza, Executive Director of the Terry Fox Foundation. “Terry showed us that we can accomplish the extraordinary when we come together for an important cause, and the incredible fundraising effort from Maple Bear students and families this year is a wonderful example.”

“Terry underscores Maple Bear’s core values of empathy, humility, generosity and collaboration,” says Robin Pascoe, member of the Maple Bear Global Schools Board of Directors. “I am sure Terry would be utterly humbled to know what he started.”

For more than 10,000 schools across Canada, Terry Fox is a symbol of strength and pride, who serves to demonstrate that one person really can make a difference. “We are glad for the support of Maple Bear families in empowering our children to make a positive impact in society as they begin to recognize that their actions can help others,” states Patricia Koh, Chief Executive Officer and Education Ambassador for Maple Bear Asiawide.
