The Terry Fox Run Vietnam: Hope Knows No Borders VANCOUVER, CANADA  January 17, 2020 – The Terry Fox Foundation, along with the Canadian Chamber of Commerce Vietnam, organizers of the Terry Fox Run in Ho Chi Minh City,  are proud to announce the launch of a multi-national, five-year project to dramatically change the outcomes of pediatric cancer patients in Vietnam. At present, Vietnamese children who are diagnosed with cancer are largely treated with adult treatment protocols. The “Program for Improving Pediatric Care in Vietnam” will create the first ever pediatric oncology fellowship training program in Vietnam. Having launched in November 2019, the project allows for the development of more universal standards of care which can be implemented nationwide. As part of this program, the fellows will be required to participate in substantive research inclusive of quality improvement. The University of Medicine and Pharmacy (UMP) will be the headquarters for the program, and will facilitate the data collection at participating pediatric cancer centres in Vietnam. “Together we are heavily invested in the development of a pediatric oncology fellowship training program in Vietnam as a method to better understand and subsequently improve upon pediatric cancer outcomes in Vietnam,” said Dr. Tran Diep Tuan, President and Associate Professor of Pediatrics at UMP.
