"Even if I don't finish, we need others to continue. It's got to keep going without me."

Let His Legacy Inspire Yours

A legacy or estate gift is a donation made in your Will. It is a powerful expression of the impact you want to have on the world. A gift in your Will brings meaning and purpose to a life well lived, while helping to improve the world for generations to come. This significant decision also has the ability to reduce taxes on your estate.

My brother Terry witnessed the suffering of fellow cancer patients firsthand and believed that funding research was the key to fueling progress and hope. His legacy is one of selflessness and courage, and a testament to his belief that one person has the power to make a difference.

For more information about leaving a gift in your Will, or other types of planned gifts, please contact us today. We would love the opportunity to discuss how this type of donation will be a meaningful tribute to people facing cancer as well as to your family and legacy.

Why I Give

“I was very close to my grandmother and her death from lung cancer devastated me. When Terry announced he had to stop his run, that was also pretty devastating, especially because the metastatic tumour had gone to his lung, as it had for my grandma. I want to make a difference for families and help future generations. Every gift in a Will can have an impact and it’s just so important that we continue to honour Terry’s legacy and fund cancer research.”

Q: Why did you decide to join the Terry Fox Legacy Circle?

“It allows me to bring my lifelong commitment as a Terry Fox supporter full circle. Leaving a gift, as my legacy, helps sustain the future of the critically important work of many of the world’s very best cancer researchers and clinicians, right here in Canada.”

Q: What comes to mind when you think about Terry Fox’s legacy?

“The power and extraordinary impact of one young man’s selflessness and passion to improve the lives of cancer patients. The steadfast commitment by the Fox Family to maintain the belief in Terry’s dream for over four decades. It is truly remarkable that Terry continues to be an international example of determination and integrity. His story and the impact of his mission is as strong today as it was in 1980!”

Q: Why are legacy gifts important to you in funding cancer research across Canada?

“Personally, I have lost friends and family members to cancer. Professionally, I have worked as a hospice and palliative care nurse most of my career, and I have seen the burden of the disease up close. Cancer has touched every Canadian in some way, and any positive impact that enhances the quality and longevity of life for cancer patients is a big win!

Through the brilliant leadership and collaboration of The Terry Fox Foundation and The Terry Fox Research Institute, the incredible teams of researchers they support are at the forefront of revolutionizing new treatments and technologies, which has most definitely improved the landscape for people who have received a cancer diagnosis.”

Q: What do you hope will be accomplished with your gift?

“It provides me with a sense of comfort and privilege that I will be contributing to the long-term funding necessary to fulfill Terry’s legacy. For more than 40 years, The Terry Fox Foundation has proven that they are respected leaders in the field of cancer research, and I trust them to use my gift to invest in the projects that have the potential to make the greatest impact for Canadians.”

Q:  Why should others join the Terry Fox Legacy Circle?

“It is a unique opportunity to embrace the responsibility of contributing to the exciting future of cancer research. It is a wonderful chance to join a community of like-minded individuals who have been touched by cancer and recognize the importance of long-term support.”
